Our trip starts from the Skippers Canyon Road: unsealed and very narrow it snakes its way through the canyon, rock on one side and vertical drops to the Shotover River on the other. Not for the faint hearted! All rental cars are banned from this 17-km road. It is our second trip down this road, so we felt brave and took photos (the first time we held on to our seats with both hands with eyes closed).
